Crunchy and Nutritious: Why Dehydrated Apples are My Ultimate Snack!

Updated: Jun 3, 2023

Good morning! Today, I want to share one of my favorite snacks - dehydrated apples. They are not only delicious and convenient, but they are also packed with nutrition.

Dehydrating apples is a simple and easy process that you can do right at home. Here's how:

  1. Wash and slice the apples into thin, uniform pieces. Try to keep them around 1/4 inch thick so that they dehydrate evenly.

  2. If you want to preserve the color of the apples, you can soak them in a mixture of lemon juice and water for a few minutes. This will help prevent them from turning brown during the dehydrating process.

  3. Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on the dehydrator trays. Make sure they are not touching each other, as this can cause them to stick together.

  4. Set the dehydrator to around 135°F (57°C) and let it run for 6-8 hours. The exact time will depend on the thickness of your apple slices and the humidity in your area. You can check the slices periodically and remove them once they are fully dehydrated and crispy.

  5. Once the apple slices are done, you can store them in an airtight container or plastic bag. They will last several weeks at room temperature or even longer if you keep them in the fridge. I vacuum pack them after conditioning them and keep them in a cool dark place. They last for months this way.

While I don't bother with the lemon water-soaking step, it can be a helpful tip for those who want to preserve the color of the apples. It's worth doing if you are giving these as a gift. But the choice is yours!

Dehydrated apples are not only a delicious and healthy snack but also incredibly versatile. Enjoy them as a standalone snack or add them to your favorite recipes to boost flavor and nutrition. So, go ahead and give it a try. You won't regret it!
